SDK: Screenshots

By default, the feedback step has an optional Capture screenshot control. Nothing is captured until the respondent clicks it. The capture is attached to the response, and the respondent can remove it before submitting.

The control is hidden if either of these turns it off:

  • Per survey: the Allow screenshots setting in the survey's Settings → Style tab.
  • Per page: allowScreenshots: false in init(), for a page that shows sensitive data. Pass it to every init() call on that page.
ftools('init', {
  surveyId: '__SURVEY_ID__',
  publishableKey: '__PUBLISHABLE_KEY__',
  allowScreenshots: false
});
  • A capture is the visible part of the page, saved as WebP (JPEG in browsers that can't encode WebP, such as Safari).
  • A response holds up to 3 screenshots.
  • A capture larger than 5 MB, or one that takes longer than 10 seconds, fails. The respondent sees an error message and can try again.
  • A failed capture never blocks the response: it is sent without the attachment.
  • Images from other domains appear only if their server allows CORS.
